The main reasons Canadians move are the arrival of a new member in the family, a job change, the departure of children, retirement, a large influx of money, or when major renovations are required.

Here are the results in numbers:

– The family is growing – 42%
– Change of employment – 37%

– Retirement – 18%
– Came into money – 14%
– The house needs renovations – 14%

Is it expensive to move in Canada?

Frequently moving to new homes. Just think of all the costs associated with moving and those related to the acquisition of a new property (notary, transfer fees, etc.). According to Nicolas Bouchard, founder and co-president of DuProprio, “Those who want to move every five years need to carefully consider how they plan to go about the transaction. Over a period of 60 years, homeowners who deal with traditional real estate agents should expect to spend about $180,000 on commissions only.”

Bouchard continues, “That’s why we encourage homeowners to forgo the commission and work with us – that way, they pocket the full amount of their home value, which they rightfully should.”
